What can you expect when adopting a dachshund into your home?  

I like to describe them as the little dog with a big dog complex lol. 

They are excellent watchdogs as they will let you know if anything is out of the ordinary. They are very playful.  Dachshunds love to play all sorts of games. They are very intelligent hounds. We teach our dachshunds with scents to keep them entertained. They love to find out what the scent belongs to and will follow it until located  Dachshunds are highly intelligent, and you can teach dachshunds a lot of commands. Time and treats/praise is all that is required to teach a dachshund. 

Doxies will crawl into, onto or underneath of anything that you will allow. They love to snuggle when their energy has been spent. Covers to burrow in are a must have for your dachshunds. They love to chew, so have appropriate toys or your dachshund may chew things you don’t want them to. ;-)  

Dachshunds are often referred to as wieners, wiener dogs, hot dogs or doxies. They come in a variety of coats, colors and patterns. There is the long coat, the smooth coat and the wire coat. 

Dachshunds come in many colors. 

You can find dachshunds in varying shaded of red, black/tan, black/cream, blue/tan, blue/cream, chocolate/tan, chocolate/cream, cream, wheaten, wild boar, fawn/tan, fawn/cream. Dachshunds also come in different patterns: dapple, sable, brindle and piebald.

As for size you can find miniatures and standards and the ones in between often referred to as "tweenies". 

Our dachshunds are of the miniature variety although some may go a little over the 11 pounds set by the American Kennel Club. 

Surely there is a dachshund for everyone! Who can have just one???  

Mabry Kennels Dachshunds of Southern Illinois is family owned and operated. We are AKC inspected and approved. We are licensed through the state of Illinois.

 We specialize in dachshunds. We breed all three coats with a variety of color and pattern.   

Where is Mabry Kennels Miniature Dachshunds located?

We are in beautiful Southern IL right off the wine trail. There is even a local winery that makes a dachshund themed wine down the road how cool is that.  We are easily found with highway 127 less than 2 miles from our dachshund home.  

Being born and raised on a farm has created a special love for animals. Growing up we owned everything from cattle, pigs, goats, horses, dogs, cats, turkeys, and chickens. I have always had pets and was taught at an early age to respect and care for them. Love for the dachshund breed came later with the purchase of two wirehair males that we trained for blood scent trailing. I was soon hooked on this adventurous and outgoing breed.  

My husband and I later purchased a red longhair dachshund named Anna. She never produced any puppies like I planned as with everything plans change. She became our beloved house pet instead. Producing our first litter of puppies was a great joy. 

It's been fun learning over the years about these wonderful little dachshunds and we have grown our dachshund family and now have a variety of coats and colors to choose from.
